Graduate Researcher
My research interests broadly center on how physical forces shape biomechanical design and organismal behavior across length scales. I am particularly interested in how the interplay of flight dynamics, electrostatics, and floral structure influences pollination and reveals broader physical principles underlying particle transport in nature. I enjoy spending time outdoors hiking and climbing, playing ice hockey, and working on the occasional DIY electronics project.

Undergrad Researcher
I am a third year bio-engineering student interested in bio-inspired design. I’m passionate about both human health and the ecosystem. I particularly love learning about biomechanics in animals and how such information can be used to innovate new technologies.

Andrew Ayala Bernal | [email protected]
Undergrad Researcher
Studying environmental science, I am interested in learning how people are disproportionately affected by pollution. Recently, I have had an interest in biology and how organisms interact and adapt to their surroundings. I am eager to explore how these interests could intersect with one another.

Evelyn Weng | [email protected]
Undergrad Researcher
I am a mechanical engineering student interested in the intersection between machinery and biology – both how technology can be applied towards studying nature and how nature can inform the development of technology. I hope to design bio-inspired tech for more efficient and environmentally-friendly generation of power in the future.

James Ethan Blakely | [email protected]
Undergrad Researcher
I am a physics student with a passion for biology, especially entomology. I like learning about the use of physics and mathematics in describing biological systems. My current work aims to understand how electrostatic forces are produced and used by small animals.

Yumi Zhao | [email protected]
Undergrad Researcher
I am passionate about biomedical devices and how technology can improve people’s health and quality of life. I enjoy working with circuit-based systems and building machines that solve real-world medical problems.

Zhengxian Jin | [email protected]
Undergrad Researcher
I am interested in biologically inspired systems and devices. Currently. I am working on water striders’ locomotion. I am a nature photographer and I love doing biology related works.

Richard Viveiros | [email protected]
Undergrad Researcher
Richard is a passionate biologist interested in invertebrates and currently working on the jumping and meniscus-climbing performance of snow springtails.
